Toru Road Tahi Bay Oil
Organic bay leaves, extra virgin olive oil
Organic bay leaves have been infused into extra virgin olive oil to create our warm, mild-tempered bay olive oil, that we have named Tahi Bay Oil. It's name is a twist on Titahi Bay, Porirua, where August spent his youth, and also takes into account our brand name Toru - Tahi seems to fit (we just need a Rua Oil now!)
Add some extra depth to your kai with this beautiful green oil. Use it in the same way you would use extra virgin olive oil - its pepper tones are perfect as a salad dressing, drizzled on some warmly baked bread, as a marinade, brushed on vegetables ready for roasting, or as the base for many recipes where you fry off onions, garlic and carrots. And, of course, you can always use it for bread dipping with our Toru Road Horopito Dukkah - wallah, deliciousness.

Toru Road Horopito Dukkah
Ruku/Dive into our Dukkah
Almonds, Walnuts, Sesame Seeds, Poppy Seeds, Cumin, Coriander, Fennel, Salt, and Horopito.
Dry-roasted nuts, seeds, and spices are combined with the aromatics of horopito - a traditional plant used to improve gut health. Our whānau's most favourite way to use Horopito Dukkah is on a platter that has three things (fresh bread that you can slice or pull apart, a delicious extra virgin olive oil like our Tahi Bay Oil, and our Horopito Dukkah). Dab a piece of fresh bread into some Tahi Bay Oil, and then into the Horopito Dukkah - it is the perfect pick me up and you don't even realise it's good for your puku.
You can use Horopito Dukkah as a crumb on your vegetables, protein, or ika/fish, tasty as over hummus, or shakshukah (middle-eastern eggs in a tomato base), or sprinkle liberally over your kai like Tracey's sis Frances does, as salt and pepper.

Toru Road Vegan Kale & Kawakawa Pesto (available Wellington to Kapiti region only)
Te Kuīni/Queen of Greens

Need to get more healthy greens into you that actually tastes great! Our vegan pesto combines kale with sunflower seeds and its the first of our kai that incorporates our own indigenous ingredient of kawakawa.
A coarsely made pesto (at the request of Tracey's son Keenau to "make it more meaty" - even though he's vegan!) Made in small batches to order ready for your weekend with whānau and friends to enjoy. As a sauce for your pasta, dolloped on top of your protein or vegetables, on the side with your cooked breaky, or as a feel good dip. This fresh-as deliciousness, with no preservatives, all natural, wholesome goodness will stay fresh in the fridge for two weeks. Once opened top it with extra virgin olive oil to keep air from getting to it and keep in the fridge.

ABOUT US

A few years ago Tracey started moving into eating healthy food, trying out vegan, organic, more wholesome and more natural foods. Buying a bunch of kale was at the top of the list - that's healthy right? Not enjoying the taste of that kale made her think that she could probably eat it if it was hidden in a pesto. Kale Pesto was born and is now a staple in her household, no longer hidden its the forefront of our business. Toru Road Kale & Kawakawa Pesto was the beginning of the Toru Road journey for her and her whānau.
